Committee visit trailblazing community organisation

Message Matters supported a trailblazing community organisation as it showcased work to breathe new life into a Scottish high street.

We work with Midsteeple Quarter (MSQ) to help tell the story of its work to place community ownership at the heart of regeneration in Dumfries.
And we were delighted to support the team as it prepared for a visit of the Scottish Parliament’s Economy and Fair Work Committee on Monday.
On behalf of MSQ ahead of the visit, we worked with the the Parliament’s Participation and Communities Team to help identify places to see and people to meet while the MSPs were in the area as part of their inquiry into the future of Scotland’s town centres.
That included MSQ leading a walking tour of Dumfries High Street, as well as sharing invites for a lunchtime roundtable discussion and making contact with businesses, attractions and organisations to visit as part of an afternoon drop-in session.

On the day we also provided website and social media content for MSQ, with its Executive Director, Scott Mackay, taking part in a number of broadcast and print media interviews.
MSQ is a community benefit society which has taken five buildings on the High Street into community ownership and is bringing them back to life. Its work is attracting great national attention.
It has been a busy time for the organisation after it announced the award of the contract for its first phase of major construction work earlier this month. It will see a derelict site transformed into new enterprise units and homes.

We provided PR support for this announcement, which secured front-page local media coverage, along with stories in national housing and construction trade titles.
