Eilish McColgan’s Giving Back to Track hits the headlines

Commonwealth Games gold medalist Eilish McColgan’s mission to support Scotland’s next generation of athletes has hit the headlines – with Message Matters (MM) helping to tell the story.

Scotland’s three-time Olympian – who had the nation cheering this summer as she raced to victory in the 10,000 metres in Birmingham – returned to her home city of Dundee to take part in an event organised by our media relations client, Lindsays.

The firm’s In Conversation with Eilish McColgan evening provided the perfect opportunity not just to hear about her incredible season – including gold and silver at the Commonwealths before a medals double at the European Championships – but to promote her not-for-profit Giving Back to Track initiative.

Lindsays has sponsored the record-breaking runner for almost a decade and has also supported the launch of her new project, which aims to lift financial hurdles stopping young people from getting involved in the sport. This includes backing an after-school club for children in Dundee.

We worked with Lindsays, Eilish and Active Schools Dundee to create a media opportunity which promoted the programme at the city’s Balgarthno education campus, ahead of the question-and-answer session.

The chance to see her coaching the youngsters and find out more about the next stage in her career attracted coverage via BBC TV and radio, STV News, The Courier, Evening Telegraph, Tay FM, Daily Mail, Deadline News and Scottish Legal News. It also generated lots of positive engagement via social media.

Lindsays followed up its Dundee event with another in Edinburgh. Both were incredibly engaging, insightful and well-received.

It was a pleasure working with both Lindsays and Eilish to help spread the word on such a fantastic initiative. We cannot wait to see it grow! Find out more at www.givingbacktotrack.org.
