Extreme E conducts test on groundbreaking new car
Extreme E is one of our most innovative clients. Since 2021 it’s raced electrically powered rally cars in locations around the globe that tell important stories about humanity’s impacts on the environment, or highlight examples of ways to make things better.
They’ve raced in Scotland twice now, at a former open cast mine near Sanquhar called Glenmuckloch. In the next few years the mine is to be turned into a pumped storage hydropower plant and windfarm. Everywhere they race, Extreme E also invest in what they term a legacy project, in this case the planting of trees on the banks of the River Nith. The idea is both to reduce erosion and to keep the water of the river cool, which will help wild salmon to spawn.
Over race weekend this year Extreme E conducted the first public tests of their new Extreme H car on the Glenmuckloch course, ahead of the electric rally series switching to becoming the world’s first hydrogen-powered motorsport series next year.
We enjoyed telling Finlay Carson MSP and Brian Whittle MSP about all of this, and discussing future hydrogen-powered economies with the series’ Managing Director Ali Russell.
