Message Matters for Fred. Olsen Renewables at Labour Conference

Ensuring our clients get their messages heard by the right people is at the top of our priority list, and so we were delighted to be working with Fred. Olsen Renewables to promote the results of important new polling on the public’s attitude to renewable energy.

With the election of a new government at Westminster, the onshore wind ban that has effectively been in place in England is being lifted. The country’s collective effort to achieve net zero is likely to see an expansion of onshore wind south of the border.

With these facts in mind, Fred. Olsen Renewables sought to discover the public’s attitude towards different forms of renewable energy and to test the appetite of residents to support developments in their local area. They commissioned polling of over 1,000 people to ask for their views on renewable energy.

The findings were clear:

  • Two-thirds of people believe it is important that we meet our targets to be net zero by 2050 (2045 in Scotland)
  • Support for onshore wind farms outstrips opposition by 69% to 8%
  • Support for wind farms in local areas is supported by 65% to 11%

Fred. Olsen Renewables recognised that these results could provide a significant boost to hopes for a new generation of renewables development across England. We worked with them to secure some high profile media coverage, and to take these key messages to the Labour Party conference ensuring that key messages reached Ministers, MPs, Peers, Councillors and local party members.

At a time when the UK’s approach to renewables is under great scrutiny, as the new Government sets an accelerated path towards carbon neutral generation, Fred. Olsen Renewables’ intervention is sure to add impetus to the debate over next steps necessary to achieving that goal.
